Personal & Fun Facts about Dr. Yi:
-
K-POP - She was recruited to join a Korean singing group in high school.
-
Artist At Heart - She drew people's faces since childhood and always wanted to become an artist. She now gets to be "an artist - surgeon", design her logo, website, & office decor, and keep her childhood dream.
-
Illegal Dentistry - As a young child, she grew up seeing her father, a dental technician, practice dentistry without a dental license in a rural town in Korea, and that was the norm...and so were the outhouses!
-
Pacific Northwest - She followed her husband to keep her marriage intact, then fell in love with the Pacific Northwest area.
-
Love at First Sight - Her 3rd year dental school rotation introduced her to this profession of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and she never turned back.
-
Free Time - She enjoys baking, karaoke, camping, and spending time with her family - her husband - a Director of Data Center Construction at Microsoft, her son - who is her OHSU Medical School/USMLE Step 1 Examination baby, her daughter - who is her ABOMS Oral Examination baby, and the family dog HashBrown - a goldendoodle who thinks she's a guard dog.
Dr. Ju Yon Sophie Yi is one of the very few female American Board Certified, Dual Doctorate Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in the Washington State. She's been practicing in the greater Seattle area since 2012 after her 6-year residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. She beat the odds by being the first to graduate from college in her family, in addition to two Doctorate Degrees, and completing one of the toughest residency in the Nation under the mentorship of World renowned Surgeons. She truly enjoys the intricacies of Oral Surgery procedures and seeing her patients feel relieved after Oral Surgery procedures.

Also she doesn't fit the stereotypical mold of a "surgeon", as she's only 5'4" and wears size "small" gloves.
